Since blue was the last colour to be discovered in this world but yet still the most common, here comes a blue-filled month from “Liz Ogumbo” because like my blues, the blue fashion ain’t going nowhere!
I know I just went on and on about the electric blues, and here I am again spreading more of my blues away this September! Why Because it is Spring, where I live in Johannesburg and I though it would be great to explore the blues while spring is still here before we get lost in the yellows next month….
With the color blue being such a relatively modern invention, Looking through the origin of the color blue, the only ancient culture to have a word for blue was the Egyptians, and they were also the only culture that could produce blue dye at the time.
Slowly, the Egyptians spread their blue dyes throughout the world, passing them on to the Persians, Mesoamericans and Romans. The dyes were expensive and only royalty could afford them. Blue therefore remained rare for many centuries.
Blue only appeared when the Egyptians started mining and unearthed lapis lazuli, a semi-precious stone first discovered in Afghanistan about 6,000 years ago. Lapis was scarce and thus greatly prized, and was used to adorn the tombs of pharaohs and the eyes of Cleopatra.
As you have read through my previous blog, blue is a calming colour and because we have all these shades of blue to explore based on your skin complexion and mood, allow me to take you through this blue journey one style at a time as I continue to share with you facts around the color blue along with 50 reasons why you will invest in 50 shades of blues this season.
Here goes Kirsty Williams wearing a blue shift mini dress with sequin bell-cuff sleeves while I am wearing a blue maxi dress with a matte-sequin bodice and a drop-V-back.
“This is an easy, chic and classic looks that will take us through this season called life gracfefully!”
