Bouboulicious

Updated: Aug 17, 2020

As an extension of my “Blues and print,” the Liz Ogumbo signature “Boubou”dress is already a must have but what makes it even more versatile is the ability to buy a variety of the same style and then wear them differently by switching your layers and accessories all year and season round.

During one of my trips to Ghana about 12 years ago, I got to experience Osu Market and horned into acquiring every bit of inspiration I could bring back to my design world in pursuit to further enrich my Style offering to you.

Combining the style in which my mum and aunties wear there traditional bubu dresses while lounging at home or cooking in the kitchen with the inspiration drawn from my #OsuMarket experience, my 'boubou' was born.

This signature boubou concept was birthed with the intention to give you an easy-yet-sophisticated look and feel while allowing you the freedom to still accentuate your beautiful waistline through the belt which you can tie to the back, tie to back and back to front depending on how you feel.

Danica is wearing the Boubou dress layered with a collar-shirt under for a more formal look and maybe a tieLayered with a touch of fun through the beaded-neck piece with a spaghetti strap inside in for a lighter look and feel.Layered with a turtleneck or thermals under in the winter or any ordinary cold day.

While I'm wearing the Boubou skirt with an extra abstract-puff-shoulder blouse which comes with a head piece to match.

Here are some additional suggestions on how to work this 'Bouboulicious'

Boubou Skirt:

With a collar-plain-shirt for contrast or vice versa depending on the plain/print boubou skirt for a formal look and fee with the same-print-on-print for your all-print-look. This style is not for the faint-hearted but you are welcome to try it.

It actually looks like a dress but you gotta try this look too because life is too short to wear only plain shirts. You can also pair the skirt with a different print shirt to #juxtapose. I normally like to play my bold prints including my African prints with any animal print preferably in black & white e.g. leopard/tiger/snake/zebra print.

Experiment a bit and see what works best for you.

You can also wear the boubou skirt by pairing it with a plain tee/spaghetti strap/tank/vest/turtle-neck for a more causal look.

Boubou Dress:

You can wear it as is or with a plain tee/spaghetti strap/tank/vest/turtle-neck beneath for a more layered/causal look.

My bouboulicious staples are available in a variety of colors/prints/fabrication (cotton lycra or 100% Cotton) on

Yours Fabulously,
